MATHIEU BOULANGER, CEO, ROCTOOL

Roctool’s technologies enable fast, energy-efficient production of high-quality composite parts. Mathieu Boulanger, CEO and Edouard Philippe, Composite Business Development Manager, discuss how the company’s technology provides an answer to the challenges facing manufacturers today.

JEC Composites Magazine: What does Roctool’s product portfolio offer?

Mathieu Boulanger, Edouard Philippe: Roctool is a French company and a leader in induction heating technologies for composites and plastics processing. We have over 20 years’ experience and 16
patent families with over 150 patents worldwide.

Roctool has been serving customers in the automotive, electronics, cosmetics and aeronautics industries worldwide. More than 500 systems are currently in daily use.

EDOUARD PHILIPPE, COMPOSITE BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT MANAGER, ROCTOOL

What will you present during your demonstrations at JEC World?

M.B., E.P.: We will be presenting a fast thermo-plastic composite moulding technology with cycle times of just a few minutes. Thanks to the versatility of 3iTech® Roctool induction heating technology we will be demonstrating the possibility for manufacturers to use thermoplastic composites for medium and large production runs.

WE WILL BE PRESENTING A FAST THERMOPLASTIC COMPOSITE MOULDING TECHNOLOGY WITH CYCLE TIMES OF JUST A FEW MINUTES.

What are the key advantages of your technologies?

M.B., E.P.: Reducing CO2 emissions is a major challenge for manufacturers in all sectors. The use of high-performance materials is only relevant if the implementation process is as well. Roctool’s induction heating technology is far more efficient than heating with electric cartridges or oil. Eliminating paint, reducing energy consumption to manufacture a part, and recycling finished products more easily are all essential and sustainable challenges for the planet.

Making better quality parts, faster, without paint, using bio-sourced and/or recyclable materials… these are the main challenges facing the industry.

What can the audience expect to learn at your demo?

M.B., E.P.: As the world of composites evolves, it is now time to demonstrate that we can offer sustainable and reliable technological solutions for both manufacturers and consumers. From thermoset to thermoplastic composites, we need to combine a material/process concept that meets the challenges of sustainability.
A viable, high-performance and sustainable solution exists today, and Roctool is proving it at this JEC World show with an optimised tool aimed at development which provides global solutions for today’s and tomorrow’s applications
